Yateley Lions are once again
celebrating the success of the Yateley May Fayre.
Bargain hunters were out early to attend the
largest car boot sale Yateley has seen for many
years. Altogether over 50 cars were on the field
behind the Tythings selling their wares from
8.00am.
The planning over the last
year culminated in the fun filled day of events
opened at 10.30am by the Mayor of Yateley John
Keane and Lion President Phil Ranger.
As he declared Yateley May Fayre open, Yateley's
Mayor said "This is the one occasion each year
when all the voluntary and charity organisations
around Yateley can come together at one event to
fun and enjoyment for all, whilst raising
awareness of all the excellent work they carry
out." Mayor John Keane added "A special thanks
must go to the Yateley Lions who have worked
tirelessly to organise this event year after
year."
During the opening ceremony an RAF Chinook
helicopter made a low level fly past thrilling
the gathered crowds.
The arena events started with the 50 strong
Coventry Corp of Drums. Their mixture of
precision marching and unique sounds
reverberated around the arena giving the people
of Yateley a flavour of why they are one of the
most respected youth marching bands in the
country.
‘The local dance team Vanquish thrilled crowds
with their latest routine which brought together
the best of hip-hop and contemporary dance
styles. Later in the morning Frimley based Redz
Performing Academy performed a dazzling display
of their latest routines.
For the very first time Yateley May Fayre saw
the Hawk Eagle Experience & Vulture show with
birds of prey taking to the skies giving the
crowds of Yateley and surrounding areas a unique
and vibrant show with plenty of audience
participation
.
Another first in Yateley this year was the
Rockwood Dog Display team. Based in South Wales
they have travelled the length and breadth of
the country to give their beautifully performed
and breathtaking professional stunts.
The young people from Yateley
based Premier Danced Studios took also took to
the arena wowing the crowds with routines from
dance and musical theatre along with their
latest competition pieces.
Throughout the day "JU57 NOD"
alias John Benneyworth provided short car rides
in his unique red and yellow fairy tale car
whilst collecting donations for Chase Childrens'
Hospice near Guildford.
Prior to the May Fayre he circulated many local
businesses to gain over £1500 in sponsorship in
aid of the hospice.
