Yateley May Fayre got
off to a bustling start at 8.00am on Mayday
morning with the Car Boot Sale opening with
hundreds of bank holiday bargain hunters
thronging onto the Tythings field to bag a
bargain.
Yateley’s Mayor
Councillor Myra Billings officially opened the
event at 10.30, welcoming the people of Yateley
and surrounding areas to May Fayre and thanking
Yateley Lions for staging the event.
The arena events opened with ‘Adam’s
Axemen’ Britain’s best known and oldest
lumberjack team giving the first of their 2
performances to spectacularly demonstrate all
aspects of log axing, spring board chopping and
cross-cut sawing.
Performing throughout
the day were Redz Performing Dance Academy 2010,
Premier Dance Studios and The Phoenix Dance
Crew, 3 local dance companies who have performed
at May Fayre for a number of years to become
firm favourites with their mix of contemporary
dance and hip hop. Popular newcomers to May
Fayre were ‘Yazzie’s Hip Hop Dance Class’ the
Owlsmoor based trophy winning dance team who
bought their unique style, energy and discipline
to Yateley. Yazzie’s Hip Hop Dance Class was
fund raising for the Ben Kinsella Trust and
promoting their anti knife crime message.
James Dylan’s
International Motorcycle Stunt Show packed a
punch with 2 performances of their new style
stunt show using a unique mix of comedy and
breathtaking skill with incredible motorcycle
and buggy stunts.
A real first for
Yateley was the afternoon performance of the
World Eagle Claw Kung Fu Association with their
traditional Chinese Lion Dance Team giving a
colourful and spectacular taste of the orient
with 2 Chinese Lions keeping the audience
spellbound.
Throughout the day
‘Just Nod’ gave children rides in his special
Acrea Zest Noddy Car while raising funds for the
Chase Children's Hospice in Guildford. With
sponsorship from local businesses Nod raised
over £1700 for the hospice funds.
The arena events
finished with the ever popular Open Fun Dog Show
when a large collection of pampered pooches set
out to win classes such as dog with the waggiest
tail, the best behaved, most like their owner,
most laid back, the most appealing face and the
loudest bark.
Lion President John
Carpenter said ”I would like to thank the people
of Yateley for their generous support for the
May Fayre. Thousands of pounds has been raised
by the community organisations, local and
national charities who bought their stalls to
the Green to help make Yateley May Fayre 2010
the traditional family day for the whole
community. Our special thanks also to Yateley’s
Mayor Myra Billings for opening the event and
Yateley Town Council, without whose help this
event would not have been possible”.
